I chose to submit two things for Standard 6: Communication and Technology. To show knowledge in effective verbal, I submitted my photo story that I completed in technology class. Since then I have used this photo story in my classroom and at church. This has my voice with pictures teaching the four seasons. The next submission is for nonverbal and it is a lesson plan I have written that includes technology being used as a teaching and learning strategy. This particular lesson, I used a YouTube video and an interactive map while teaching. I display medial communication by uploading all these artifacts and being able to display them. The technology class was a huge help in teaching and being prepared for this standard.

1. These artifacts show that I use knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and medial communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. Technology is such a vital part of the classroom now, not only for teaching but because majority of the children have technology all around them. Without technology, a lot of resources would be hindered in today’s growing world. Technology is constantly changing and keeping up with those changes is crucial for a teacher.  

2. This standard has impacted my own professional development because I have found out how important it is to know how to use the technology and implement it into lessons. The children are so consumed by technology that if we as teachers neglect to use it we could be hindering the children’s learning. I will strive to the best of my ability to keep up to date on all the changes in technology and use those resources as an advantage for my classroom.

3. This standard will positively impact my students because I believe that learning experiences will be enhanced by the use of technology. This world is constantly changing with technology and it is currently our biggest resources as teachers. We are using videos, pictures, and even technology as books in the classroom now. The students will benefit from the resources that we as teachers use in the classroom.
